SPATIUM — where the piano meets the wine
Milen Kirov × Ivo Varbanov
Live Music · Vinyl Listening Session · Wine Tasting

Live music, vinyl and wine — three pleasures brought together for a special gathering with Milen Kirov and Ivo Varbanov in the newly opened Analog Room.

On Saturday, 31 October, we invite you to one of the first vinyl listening sessions in Analog Room, the new boutique space at In The Mood Jazz Club, to meet pianist and composer Milen Kirov and classical pianist, producer and winemaker Ivo Varbanov.

At the heart of the event is SPATIUM — the album that connects these two artists and inspires us to bring music, wine and the stories behind them together in one shared experience.

The afternoon will combine live performances by Milen Kirov, a listening session featuring the double LP on an audiophile sound system, and a presentation of Ivo Varbanov’s wines, with the opportunity to talk directly with both artists.

Spatium means “space” in Latin. For Milen Kirov, it also represents the space between Bulgaria and America, between memory and the present, and between three musical traditions that find common ground in his work: European classical music, American jazz and blues, and Bulgarian traditional music.

Recorded on Yamaha and Steingraeber grand pianos in the beautiful acoustics of the Krzysztof Penderecki Concert Hall in Radom, Poland, the album bears the personal signature of a musician for whom composition and improvisation are naturally intertwined.

SPATIUM has received critical acclaim. Chris Spector of Midwest Record praised it with the words “Smoking, smoking, smoking throughout, this is the start of something big,” while Doug Collette of All About Jazz described the album as “arresting,” highlighting Kirov’s unerring grasp of dynamics and the music’s continuous forward motion.

Released by ICSM Records, with Ivo Varbanov as executive producer, SPATIUM will be heard in the company of the people behind the recording, as they share insights into the music, the stories behind its pieces and the journey to vinyl.

Alongside the pleasure of analogue sound, we will explore another story: that of Ivo Varbanov’s wines from South Sakar. For him, wine is a cultural expression, reflecting both the character of its place of origin and the sensibility of its creator.

In Analog Room, Ivo Varbanov will personally present a selection of his boutique wines, whose names and labels reference works from classical music and jazz. He will share the musical inspiration behind them and explore the connection between his experience as a concert pianist and his work among the vines.

This combination reflects the spirit of In The Mood: creating encounters between different art forms and the people who give them meaning.

Join us to experience the music up close, taste the wines with their maker, and leave time for questions, stories and discoveries.

One album. Two creators. A space for the senses.
