“Stop this day and night with me and you shall possess the origin of all poems,”
– Walt Whitman, Song of Myself
Some words sound different by day and by night. On 27 October, virtuoso guitarist Angel Demirev and singer and guitarist Teodora Ilieva present “Night and Day” – an evening of poetry in song at In The Mood Jazz Club.
With his distinctive guitar style and the freedom with which he moves between musical worlds, Angel Demirev has long been familiar to Bulgarian audiences. In “Night and Day,” Teodora Ilieva reveals her musical world through songs and texts in which words carry particular weight, while her voice brings their stories to life. Alongside her, Angel shapes the musical setting with his acoustic guitar, combining melodic expression, improvisation and his characteristic sensitivity to musical interplay. Between them, an ethereal space opens where we experience poetry in music and music in poetry.
The evening will move between sung and spoken words, between composed musical forms and spontaneous ideas born on stage. Familiar and much-loved works will sit alongside interpretations in which the two artists follow the direction suggested by the music itself – with emotion, freedom and virtuosity.
They are joined by percussionist Asen Haydutov. Voice, two acoustic guitars and percussion give this musical conversation room to unfold – melodies follow the words, while the words find new meaning in the music.
Join us on 27 October for “Night and Day” – an evening filled with beautiful melodies, inspiration and music that crosses the boundaries between song and poetry.
