Petar Terziev Quartet: DIRECTIONS

CONCERT
Original music and arrangements blending contemporary vocal jazz, pop and groove, with the baritone voice moving between intimate storytelling and the instrumental improvisation.

On 20 October, one of the most compelling young voices on the Bulgarian and European jazz scene returns to In The Mood with his original quartet and the project Directions.

Petar Terziev brings together pianist Nikolay Kostadinov, double bassist Daniele Febbo and drummer Aleksandar Ivanov for a concert in which contemporary vocal jazz meets pop and groove-driven sounds. The programme will feature original compositions created with close attention to lyrics and space for improvisation.

Petar Terziev is among the most active young Bulgarian vocalists and composers. He is currently studying jazz at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya – ESMUC in Barcelona, where he continues to develop his musical language in a dynamic international environment. In recent years, he has recorded the albums Vizh with Uke Duo in 2024 and Picture a Samba with Vasil Spassov in 2026. During the summer of the same year, he performed in Austria and Bulgaria with the Wladigeroff Brothers, following his participation in their album Inspired Songs.

Directions is a project dedicated to the different paths young people encounter in life – sometimes clearly defined, sometimes unexpected and constantly changing along the way. Living and studying in Barcelona has placed Terziev in an environment where the stimuli of the city and his creative drive continually lead him in one direction or another. These experiences inspire the quartet’s music – a contemporary blend of modern jazz, pop and groove, in which storytelling and a deep sensitivity to lyrics meet the freedom of jazz improvisation.

At the heart of the project is Petar Terziev’s baritone voice and his modern understanding of its place within vocal jazz. Terziev approaches his voice in different ways, moving between intimate passages with evocative lyrics and instrumental moments in which it becomes a wind instrument. These are the unifying threads that shape the aesthetic of the music he composes and arranges – the movement between word and sound, song and improvisation, intimate human presence and the freedom of instrumental expression.

The quartet brings together four young musicians with distinctive individual voices and an open approach to contemporary jazz. Nikolay Kostadinov on piano, Daniele Febbo on double bass and Aleksandar Ivanov on drums do not simply create the musical setting around the voice but participate equally in the development of the compositions.

On 20 October, Directions invites the audience to follow these different musical and personal paths through an evening of original music and contemporary vocal jazz.
