On 10 November, In The Mood Jazz Club and Alarma Punk Jazz present the Bulgarian debut of the Vincent Meissner Trio — one of the outstanding young ensembles on the German jazz scene, already attracting attention from audiences and critics across Europe.
Pianist and composer Vincent Meissner, double bassist Josef Zeimetz and drummer Henri Reichmann will perform Meissner’s original compositions alongside their own arrangements, bringing a distinctive, contemporary perspective to the pop and rock repertoire of The Beatles, Prince and Radiohead.
“Vincent Meissner is part of the future of German jazz. […] Music of geometric clarity and youthful joy in playing.”

Born in 2000 and raised in Saxony, Meissner discovered jazz as a child. At sixteen, he enrolled at Dresden’s specialist music school, and in 2019 continued his studies at the University of Music and Theatre “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” in Leipzig with Michael Wollny and Frank Chastenier. Alongside his work with the trio, he develops solo and ensemble projects in experimental and contemporary music.
Wollny also produced the trio’s debut album, Bewegtes Feld (2021), released on the prestigious ACT label. It was followed by Wille (2023) and Eigengrau (2025), also on ACT. The ensemble’s accolades include the Mitteldeutscher Jazzpreis, first prize at the Junger Münchner Jazzpreis and the Biberach International Jazz Award, while its festival appearances include Jazzopen Stuttgart, Getxo Jazzfest and Nišville.
Their musical language draws inspiration from Esbjörn Svensson, The Bad Plus, Vijay Iyer and Michael Wollny. An instinct for melody and song form meets a curiosity about the unknown: themes evolve, rhythms shift direction, and the compositions leave room for spontaneous decisions by all three musicians.
Their repertoire also includes their own interpretations of The Beatles’ In My Life, Prince’s Nothing Compares 2 U and Radiohead’s Separator. These songs are a natural extension of their interest in strong melodies and the possibilities of developing them within a new musical context.
On their latest album, Eigengrau, seven original pieces by Meissner sit alongside his interpretations of music by Prince and Radiohead. Here, the trio explores a more restrained expressiveness, with each musical idea carefully shaped and melodies unfolding naturally through a minimalist approach. The title refers to the darkness we see with our eyes closed — an image the pianist uses to describe his wish for the music to evoke different pictures in every listener’s imagination.
“Music of geometric clarity and youthful joy in playing.”
